Not first graders.
I read the story of the three little pigs to the first grade. Being the first time they had heard the version where the wolf actually ate the pigs, I was trying to make it less traumatic for them by explaining that bacon and ham come from pigs, so eating them is not so strange. Except, of course, for our Jewish and Muslim students. [Face it, fairy tales are just plain traumatic and not PC.] “Why would the wolf eat the pig?” I asked. “Because,” replied a little boy promptly, “pigs are made of meat.”
