I have this cousin who is studying mechanical engineering as a freshman at one of our state universities. The kid is practically a genius, yet as laid-back as they come. He has a very dry sense of humor, which (you will shortly see) his mother shares. Anyway, this recent Facebook conversation between him and his mother cracked me up.
Cousin: Spectrophotometric analysis prelab! it’s like Christmas in October!!! And it’s just such a helpful skill in the real world!
Aunt: It IS helpful in the real world when you need to determine the concentration of a chemical in a solution by evaluating the amount of light the substance absorbs. I use one all the time at work.
Cousin: Lol. The Internet has betrayed me.
